Sam Dallas, Consultant

Sam Dallas is an experienced financial executive with expertise in various areas of finance and employee benefits.  In his 25 year career, he has been a major contributor and has also managed financial professionals in rapidly changing and growing organizations. He is very well versed in strategic planning, financial modeling and scenario analysis.

Sam has significant experience with raising capital in the capital markets and from commercial banks. He has intricate knowledge in the administration and management of pension plans and 401(k) plans and other employee benefit plans. His bottom line orientation has resulted in significant cost reductions and the creation of considerable value for the organizations he has been a part of over the years.

As Vice-President of Finance at SEMCO Energy Inc, an $800 million diversified energy and construction services company, Sam was responsible for all financial planning, and treasury operations for the company.  Sam’s achievements included negotiating with banks for temporary financing for a $290 million acquisition as well as the issuance of debt and equity securities.

During his career at MCN Energy Group Inc, a $4 billion diversified company, Sam held a number of high level positions including Director of Trust Investments, and Director of Investor Relations.  Sam directed the investment of the company’s pension assets (initially $500 million) and their growth to $1.5 billion over a ten year period.

During his tenure, Sam directed the establishment of MCN’s retiree health care funding program through specialized trust vehicles designed to shelter the growth of invested assets from income taxes.  Other key accomplishments included improvements to optimize the company’s 401(k) plan and the design and implementation of an early retirement program to achieve a material downsizing of the work-force.

Sam has substantial knowledge of both qualified and non-qualified pension plans, including their design and the investment of assets under these plans to achieve desired objectives.

Sam has a degree in Accounting and an MBA in Finance.  He has served as a member of the Executive Committee of the Michigan Employee Benefits Conference.
